MD/DC PT Cruiser Club's
M e e t  &  G r e e t

September 23, 2000 / 12 Noon /  Thurmont, Maryland:

Welcome one and all to the second installment of the MD/DC PT Cruiser Club's Meet & Greet. This time we hosted it in the beautiful and quaint Thurmont, Maryland which is located on the foothills of the Catoctin Mountains.

We all met at Cunningham Falls State Park at 12 noon on Sept 23rd for refreshments and snacks before we all jumped into our cars to make a grand entrance into Thurmont for dinner at The Mountain Gate Family Restaurant.

We were thrilled buy people standing on the side of the road waving to us as we drove past and even the local Toy/Hobby shop owner ran out of his store to wave to us and show that he sells PT Cruiser stuff!

Here are the pictures, even though it had rained earlier, God blessed us with dry skies for the rest of the day. I apologize for not getting close shots of everyone's PT, my digital camera was running out of memory and I had conserve space. If you attended and have shots to share, please e-mail me them and I will post them here. Enjoy!

Cunningham Falls State Park is a gorgeous park set on the East side of the Catoctin Mountain range just 1 hour from both DC and Baltimore's beltway. It has a man made lake with a beach that can be used for swimming during the summer months along with fishing and boating year round. It also has pavilions for picnics and fire rings for cookouts. The most impressive feature of the park is the actual Cunningham Falls. This picturesque waterfalls drops down the side of the mountain for approximately 150 feet. There are many trails that surround it and if you are feeling adventuress, you can even climb up the sides of the falls!

The Mountain Gate Family Restaurant is located just of Rt 15 in Thurmont. It is one of 3 four star restaurants that blesses Thurmont. It has great traditional quinine  which you can order or take advantage of the buffet. The buffet has something for everyone. There is even a desert buffet of homemade goodies included in the price!

Thurmont's claim to fame is that Camp David, the Presidential Retreat, is just up the mountain from it, but that's not all the items of interest up here in the Catoctins. Besides Cunningham Falls State Park, there is also Catoctin Mountain Park with it's camping, hang gliding, fishing, hiking, and rock climbing. Believe it or not, there is more....

Also there are educational, historic and other fun attractions ether in Thurmont or close buy. We have the Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo just off Rt 15 as you enter Thurmont. There is the historic Catoctin Furnace archeological site for a glimpse into Maryland's past. Now speaking of history, there are many homes and buildings in Thurmont which are over 150 years old, but if your interest is more towards military history, Gettysburg PA is just a short 20 minute drive North of Thurmont. If you like crafts and fresh fruits and vegetables, there is the Cozy village just down the street and orchards completely surrounding our small little town.
